Nesting Alert: Dikkops are breeding in Cola and Myoli!

  Shh... Tiny Dikkops on the Way! It's that time of year again!  We're thrilled to confirm that the Spotted Thick-knee (or Dikkop) breeding season is officially underway here! Nests have been spotted on several local verges and in gardens around the area.   Please help us protect the next generation: The nest: Usually just a scrape in the ground, often with a few pebbles or dry grass blades. The chicks: Tiny, fluffy, and incredibly well-camouflaged. Incubation is around 25-27 days. Safety for all and some fun facts about these amazing birds: Keep your distance: Dikkops are ground-nesting and easily stressed. Control your dogs:  Dogs must be kept on a lead near any known or suspected nesting sites. Parents' can put on a "broken-wing display" as a distraction tactic, this usually means the nest is very close. Please watch where you walk: Be especially careful on verges, open fields, or gravel areas where they often nest. DO NOT touch the eggs or chicks. Let's wo...
