The importance of small rules

The importance of small rules  In our daily lives, we often encounter small rules that seem trivial: not speeding, stopping completely at stop signs, walking our dogs on a lead, and picking up after them. These rules may appear minor, yet they play a significant role in maintaining the safety, cleanliness, and charm of our community. This principle is strongly linked to the Broken Window Theory, a concept that suggests that visible signs of disorder and neglect, such as broken windows, encourage further crime and anti-social behavior. The theory posits that maintaining and monitoring urban environments in a well-ordered condition can stop further vandalism and escalation into more serious crime. The Broken Window Theory gained prominence in the 1980s when it was applied to transform New York City. During that period, the city faced a daunting crime wave, but by addressing minor infractions—like subway fare evasion, vandalism, and public drinking—the city began to see a significant ...

What is all the stink about?

Image
Playing your part It is important to pick up dog poop when walking your dog in the suburbs and on the beach to protect the environment and keep public spaces clean for everyone to enjoy. Leaving dog poop on the ground can pollute waterways, harm wildlife, and contribute to the spread of diseases. Furthermore, it is unpleasant for families, especially with children, to encounter when they are enjoying the beach. By being responsible and picking up after your dog, you are helping to keep our beaches and neighbourhoods clean and safe for everyone. Thank you for doing your part in preserving the beauty of our community.  The conservancy provides bags for you to use at the Cola Beach parking, please carry your own if you are walking in the suburbs.  It is important to make sure that the bag is tied securely before disposing of it to ensure there is no unpleasant experience for the municipal workers when they empty the bins.
